As reported in the Greenville Times-Herald:
"Rash of Abductions Continues; Sales of Handguns On The Rise"
Last Tuesday, Jillian Murphy left her downtown Greenville condominium around 9:00pm, telling her roommate Audrey that she would 'just be gone a minute'. In the space of three blocks which lay between her condo and the coffee shop Higher Grounds, Jillian was snatched from her comfortable world. Days later, her friends still have not heard from her, and the police have 'avenues of investigation open to us, but no persons of interest at this time.' As this is the third in a week-long spree of abductions, the Police Chief has advised caution for all women in the Greenville area.
For many Greenville-area women, 'caution' apparently means 'firearm'. Local gun stores have noticed a sharp uptick in small-frame firearms suitable for concealed carry, and an accompanying increase in registrations for concealed carry licenses. Larry Harker, owner of "Larry's Chicken, Waffles and Pawn", said about the recent events, "I've sold more pistols in the last week than I did for the two months prior. Don't have anything smaller than a 1911 left on the shelf," referring to the rather large Colt Government Model 1911 .45 handgun. When we tried to join a concealed carry class to interview participants, we were shocked to discover that the waiting list for a slot in any of the area's courses stretches to two months for some of the better-known schools.
