Jesse Robbins <mst@mst-office.net>;
Good Evening,
This is the official declaration for announcing the start of the
US National Storyteller election. While the MST’s office is administering
the election as outlined in the current US Membership Handbook, I have
asked the US Board of Directors to assist me in providing support in both
administrative and proctoring to the election of the US National
Storyteller.
As you know, Dain Geist is coming up on the end of his term as US NST. I
don’t have enough words to properly thank Dain for all the hard work he has
put in during his term. Dain’s dedication to the US NST’s office, and to
the club, is in keeping with the highest of standards. I am pleased that I
have had the opportunity to work with him and wish him all the best in his
future endeavors.
Dain, thank you. It’s been a pleasure.
Dain and his team will remain in place throughout the election and will
work with the incoming NST to affect as seamless transition as possible.
The US NST is a heavily administrative job. This means that reports need
to be taken care of; database applications checked regularly, managing
crisis situations on lower levels of the ST hierarchy, and much more. The
US NST needs to be available both to their officers and to the membership
at large. This means a lot of email, and quite possibly significant time on
instant messenger and/or IRC as well. It is not a commitment to be taken
lightly, and it does not consist merely of writing plots and telling
stories. The description below is taken from the current legacy US
Membership Handbook:
In the Camarilla, storytelling authority within the global
sanctioned chronicle derives from the club's Master Storyteller.
Storytellers in the United States serve as an extension of both the Master
Storyteller and the US National Storyteller. Storytellers in the Camarilla
have the following areas of jurisdiction:
CAMARILLA MEMBERSHIP HANDBOOK
Storyteller Scope of Authority
National storyteller Geographic boundaries of the US
Within the global sanctioned chronicle, each elected storyteller has within
their storytelling jurisdiction, the authority to:
• Establish local chronicle continuity and history within the parameters
defined by supervising storytellers.
• Design and implement suitable plotlines.
• Create and introduce appropriate Storyteller-controlled characters;
the storyteller may portray these characters or assign members to portray
them.
• Run games, downtime scenes, and proxies that affect global sanctioned
chronicle.
• Interpret rules for scenes and make other necessary storytelling
decisions.
• Freeze a scene or characters.
• Sanction characters for participation in the global sanctioned
chronicle.
• Review and approve special requests up to their level of authority.
• Award experience traits to characters and track purchases.
• Require a player to provide full character sheet, experience trait
log, and character background.
• Conduct investigations for game-related issues and
enact storyteller-based disciplinary actions. See disciplinary
action section for details.
• Hire assistants and delegate these authorities, in whole or part, to
them.
• Conduct pre-game character check-in to ensure the characters conform
to the venue style sheet and are suitable for the game.
• Storytellers can exercise this authority as needed anywhere underneath
their jurisdiction. They may also overturn or modify the decisions of any
storyteller within their jurisdiction.
This is just a portion of the duties of the National Storyteller.
In addition, qualities that are critical for the position are:
• Detail oriented with strong Self management skills
• Able to manage teams effectively (and remotely)
• Understanding the scope of their jurisdiction and having the vision
to guide their games via their staff.
• Excellent time management
• Ability to handle a large work load
• Both good written and verbal skills
The deadline for submitting applications is March 20th 2012 at 11:59pm PST.
In your application letter, please include the following:
• Camarilla resume and Real Life resume/curriculum vitae if appropriate
• Your vision statement for the position which incorporates your
vision for your tenure as NST
• 1 year work plan.
• Any disciplinary actions or related Storyteller/Coordinator actions
taken against you in the Camarilla, with details of nature and severity.
• Three Camarilla references (minimum). As this is not a
local position, references from outside of your own Domain are preferable.
Applications can be submitted in Microsoft Office, OpenOffice or PDF.
Please be prepared to answer questions about your application to the US
RST's. Applications must be sent to the proctors at *
apps@mindseyesociety.org. *The proctors are: Jesse Robbins as MST, Brian
Gates as AMST Archivist and US Director, and Jericho Johnson as US Director.
The applications will be vetted on the following factors: disciplinary
actions in the past two years that deal with matters of ethics in relation
to your behavior as a storyteller or player, completeness of the
application, timeliness of the application.
Good luck,
--
