As reported in the Greenville Times-Herald;
"Warehouse in North Greenville Burns; Owner Answers Questions About Hidden Bank Vault"
Three in the morning on a Sunday is a winding-down time for Greenville. The bars are closing, the all-night diners are doing a brisk trade in coffee and breakfast, and the church crowd won't start for another few hours. Last night, however, this peaceful hour was shattered by the hooting of fire trucks trying to quench a towering, multi-colored inferno which used to be the warehouse for Best American Import/Export, based out of Easley. According to the spokesperson for the Greenville Fire Department, "The arson inspector has taken an interest in the case, and the investigation is ongoing."
Jerry Brookhaven, owner of Best American, spent most of Sunday afternoon answering questions regarding the purpose and content of a 10' by 10' by 10' vault found hidden under a false floor in the warehouse office. According to Mr. Brookhaven, who lists his profession as 'import/export facilitator' on his LinkedTogether business networking page, the vault 'is just as much of a surprise to me as it is to you. When I purchased the building, no one told me anything about a *bleeping* vault." According to publicly accessible building plans, the vault does not exist, a fact which could lend credence to Mr. Brookhaven's claims. Police are currently searching for a way into the vault, but the lock is "excessively redundant and complex, with the possibility of anti-intrusion countermeasures," said an officer on the scene.
